Harry Colfer is the pseudonym of an experienced critical care paramedic who currently works in Brisbane.
With his role being one of the highest-trained pre-hospital clinicians, he regularly attends cardiac arrests, multi-system trauma and major incidents, but as you can imagine, this can take its toll. As a way of dealing with his inevitable demons, he embraced the cathartic paramedic custom of dark-humoured storytelling and began writing in his spare time. Using his knowledge of the subject area, he created a series of short stories, Ambo Tales from the Frontline, eventually publishing one for each of the thirty-two codes used to categorise emergency calls.
In addition to winning a string of writing awards, Harry has also published three full-length novels featuring the same characters: a murder-mystery, Dead Regular, and two action-adventure thrillers, Beneath Contempt and High Acuity.
Prior to his paramedic career, ‘Harry’ spent over six years in Townsville as a marine biologist but has always led somewhat of a nomadic life. Now, with writing as his passion and his day job soon to be in the rearview, his dream of living on a yacht and writing full time based in the Whitsundays is becoming more of an attainable goal.
