Competition Name: Love Letter to Queensland community writing competition.
Competition Coordinator: The inaugural Love Letter to Queensland event and writing competition is being coordinated by the 2024 Whitsundays Writers Festival.
Competition Period: Monday 17 July 2024 to Wednesday 31 July 2024.
Submission Guidelines
- Eligibility: We welcome entries from current Australian residents.
- Prize Divisions: Eligible entries will be reviewed by a judging panel. Shopping vouchers will be awarded for best submissions in Adult ($500), Under 18 Years ($250), and Under 12 Years ($200) divisions plus Highly Commended Certificates.
- Word Limit: Your submission should be no more than 300 words.
- Fees: The competition is free to enter.
- Entry Limit: One entry per person is permitted.
- Format: Your love can be conveyed as a poem, letter, short story, or even a simple, poignant line. Let your creativity shine! We accept entries in the form of text or images (for example, photos of handwritten letters or illustrated poems).
- Submission Deadline: All entries must be submitted online via the form below by 11:59pm Wednesday 31 July 2024.
Judging & Announcements
- The Whitsundays Writers Festival will appoint a panel of judges to review and select winning and highly commended entries based on the quality of their entry.
- The decision of the Love Letter to Queensland community writing competition judges is final, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding evaluation or feedback on submissions.
- Winners and highly commenced entries will be announced at the Love Letter to Queensland event, commencing 6:30pm Thursday 5 September 2024.
- Winners and highly commenced entries be notified by phone or email on Friday 6 September 2024.
- Winners’ names, suburbs/towns, and their entries will be published on the Whitsundays Writers Festival website on Friday 6 September 2024.
Copyright & Publication
- By entering the competition, you retain the copyright of your work. However, you grant Love Letter to Queensland and its partners the right to publish entries on its website and social media, in any editorial or exhibition of entries, and share for promotional purposes.
Terms & Conditions
- Acceptance: By entering the competition, you agree to these terms and conditions.
- Entries: Your entry must comply with the competition details.
- Fees: The competition is free to enter.
- Original Work: Your submission must be written in English, your own original work (testing for artificial intelligence (AI) input may be made), and not previously published in the public domain.
- Content: Entries must be suitable for a public audience, readers of all ages, and not contain any offensive or abusive content.
- Permission: Entrants under 18 must have parent/guardian permission.
- Deadline: Entries must be submitted online by the end date. Late or incomplete entries will not be considered.
- Prizes: Prizes are not transferable or redeemable for cash. The Competition Coordinator reserves the right to substitute prizes if necessary.
- Publicity: Winners agree to participate in promotional activities related to the competition.
- Liability: The Competition Coordinator is not responsible for any loss or damage in connection with the competition or prizes.
- Changes: The Competition Coordinator reserves the right to modify or cancel the competition if necessary.
